Course Code: WELL 5506
Academic Year: 2019-2020
Wellness coaching is an emerging and vibrant addition to the healthcare landscape. It extends healing beyond the curing of symptoms and empowers clients to take control over their own health. This practical six-credit course provides students with hands-on experience in coaching for long-term health and wellness with clients in the Humber Centre for Healthy Living. Using a client-centered approach, students use evidence-based tools and strategies to help people improve their lifestyle and habits. They put into action the learning of previous courses, assimilating wellness principles to assess clients' needs according to determinants of health, to build rapport and trust, to design customized and comprehensive programs and to prevent relapses. Students manage the lifecycle of the coaching relationship to transition from supportive motivational coaching through to independence and self-empowerment.
