Proper nutrition plays a vital role in health, weight maintenance and risk reduction of chronic disease. This course examines the key elements of good nutrition from an evidence-based scientific perspective to encourage students to acquire fundamental knowledge in nutrition and translate this to improvements in their own diet. Key topics covered include: recommendations for dietary intake, digestion and hydration, the six classes of nutrients, and strategies to manage a healthy weight. Special emphasis is placed on Canada's nutrition guidelines and critical analysis of current nutrition trends.
