Student Personal Training

The student personal training program is a component of the educational preparation for students enrolled in the Fitness diploma and Exercise Science postgraduate certificate programs. Students provide personal training to members of the Humber community.

Personal Training Program and Participation Requirements

This program is open to Humber students, faculty and staff, as well as industry partners and takes place in the Humber College Fitness Centre (North Campus).

The fee is $75.00 for the program. Choose one of two options:

Fitness and Health Promotion Student Trainer:

Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management Student Trainer:

  • Must be able to commit to the program from September to December 2018;
  • A health screening and goal setting session; 
  • Initial and final fitness assessment; 
  • Development of a workout program specifically for you; 
  • Two weekly student personal training sessions for one hour each (20 total).
  • Must be able to commit to the program from October 2018 to April 2019;
  • Fall:
    • A health screening and goal setting session;
    • Basic initial fitness assessment;
    • Development of a workout program specifically for you;
    • One weekly student personal training session for one hour each (6 total);
    • A customized workout plan for the holiday break.
  • Winter:
    • Review health screening and goals;
    • Customized initial and final fitness assessment;
    • Progression of workout program specifically for you;
    • Two weekly student personal training sessions for one hour each (20 total).

If you are interested in participating, please be sure to register early as the program fills up quickly due to limited Student Personal Trainers available.

Personal Training Options 2018 - 2019

Option #1

Fitness and Health Promotion
(Diploma Students)

  • Start date would be mid-September. Student trainers contact their clients during Week 2-3 of the semester to introduce themselves and schedule their initial consultations with their assigned client
  • Duration of program is 14 weeks (1 initial consultation, 1 initial fitness assessment, 20 personal training session (2/week), 1 final assessment and 1 final consultation
Option #2

Exercise and Lifestyle Management
(Postgraduate Certificate Students)

  • Starts week after Thanksgiving and runs until the end of April
  • Program is broken up over both semesters:
    • October to December (1 initial consultation, 1 initial fitness assessment, 6 - 1hr training session (1/wk)
    • January to April (review health screening and goals, customized initial fitness assessment, 20-1hr personal training sessions (2/wk), customized final fitness assessment, final debrief)
  • New this year: Nutrition counseling sessions with a nutrition student running from January to April (can opt out)
Option #3

Kinesiology
(3rd Year Undergraduate Degree Students)

  • Starts mid-January and runs until the first week of April
  • Duration of program is 11 weeks (health screening/goal setting session, initial fitness assessment, 8-1hr personal training session (1/wk), final fitness assessment and final debrief)

**Commitment to all outlined sessions required for all programs as students need to complete all sessions to pass their course.**

**If clients or trainers need to cancel, provide 24 hours’ notice.***
