PUSHING OUR FITNESS STUDENTS TO THEIR LIMITS

February 13, 2017

The new students in the Fitness and Health Promotion program participate in a Fitness Leadership Trip at the start of each semester. This year, we went to Pursuit OCR in downtown Toronto. Led by Program Coordinator, Victoria Ryder-Burbidge, Program Support Officer, Eddie Yu, and Faculty Member, Ajay Rampersad, the students had a chance to have fun and learn valuable team building and leadership skills. These brand new students also had the opportunity to meet their classmates in a more informal and active setting to help break down barriers and build friendships.

Pursuit OCR challenged the students physically while providing them with the chance to try something new. The obstacle course and the popular warp wall tested their endurance and pushed their limits. The students also completed the obstacle course as a team, trying to get a medicine ball through the course without letting it touching the ground.  This hands-on experience helps to provide the confidence to meet the challenges in the remainder of their diploma.

We understand the transition to college can be challenging, especially with many of our students coming from varied backgrounds, and we hope this fun filled afternoon allows the students an opportunity to ‘play’ for a few hours this semester.
