Hospitality Management

Credential: Diploma Program Code: 01551 Length: 4 semesters

To be eligible for admission, you must possess the following:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent including these required courses:
    • Grade 12 English (ENG4C or ENG4U or equivalent)
    • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U) or Grade 11 C, M or U Mathematics (MBF3C, MCF3M or MCR3U)
    • Two Grade 11 or Grade 12 C, M or U courses in addition to those listed above

Selection: Admission selection is based on the academic criteria indicated. Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission.

Mature Applicants

An applicant is considered a mature applicant if they have not completed secondary school or other postsecondary school, and will be 19 or older (21 or older for degree programs) as of the first day of classes. Humber will invite you for testing to demonstrate that you meet program eligibility. Mature applicants for degree programs will be required to meet course requirements at the U level or equivalent.

College Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a college transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a college-level credential. Humber will use your college courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

University Transfer Applicants

An applicant is considered a university transfer applicant if they have completed some or all of a university-level credential. Humber will use your university courses and grades to determine program eligibility. You may also be eligible for transfer credit if you are admitted to a Humber program.

Humber’s Hospitality Management diploma program is the leader in hospitality management training. You will develop your business management skills via hands-on learning, theoretical classes and practical labs led by industry experts.

The Humber Hospitality Management Advantage

  • Enhance your resumé with industry certifications such as service excellence, food safety, responsible alcohol beverage service, and wine and beer knowledge
  • Learn state-of-the-art software applications including Micros: Opera, the premier hotel management system software, and Fidelio – a leading restaurant point-of-sale system
  • Embark on a 14-week industry placement providing you with on-the-job experience and industry contacts
  • Study abroad and travel internationally with unique opportunities in Europe, Taiwan and Central America
  • Gain valuable instruction and guidance from faculty with extensive industry experience in concepts such as marketing and sales, leadership management, and sustainability.

Note: A fast-track program is implemented for the January start. The first semester (January to April) is immediately followed by the second semester (May to July), resulting in a shorter summer break. The third semester begins in September, allowing students to complete the two-year program in just 16 months.

Work Placement

Work placements are a valuable way to gain work experience and develop contacts to potentially get hired before or after graduating.

A key feature of the program takes place in the fourth semester with a 14-week placement with a hospitality organization. Our internship co-ordinator provides direction and assistance for each student in securing a placement. Industry partners who often offer full-time employment to graduates include:

Industry Leadership

Humber College’s School of Hospitality, Recreation & Tourism, in partnership with the Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA), launched the Hotel Management Leadership Program. The part-time program helps address a significant gap in the hospitality industry labour market. Specifically, it trains management-level employees to become senior leaders in the hotel industry.

Wine & Mixology

In the Wine and Mixology room, students are introduced to wines of the world and the intricacies of food and wine pairing. In the mixology lab, students learn the theory and practical skills of a wide range of beverages and mixology including creating mixed drinks, understanding beers, spirits and wines.

Hotels, restaurants, resorts, bars and nightclubs, attractions, and event planning companies in Canada and around the world hire Humber hospitality graduates in positions such as:

Study Abroad

Qualified students are eligible to undertake one of the following study abroad opportunities:

Short Duration Options: These short duration experiential learning opportunities operate annually in May and are 10 to 20 days in length. Destinations include Europe, Asia and Central America.

Semester Abroad Options: Our program offers a unique semester abroad option operating annually in the winter semester. The options for students in this program include experiencing Europe, Taiwan and Central America.
