Program Overview

Make a career out of your love of travel, exploration and adventure! Humber’s Tourism - Travel Services Management diploma program will provide you with the experience and skills you need to thrive in this exciting industry both at home and abroad.

Our program provides dynamic experiential learning balanced with an academic curriculum that adapts to ever-evolving tourism industry-specific skills and technological needs. Paying attention to what the industry and our partners require ensures that our sought-after graduates are ready to meet the demands of the modern workplace.

During your four semesters of study you:

  • benefit from Humber’s affiliation with international educational institutions providing student exchange programs and semester or summer abroad studying opportunities
  • complete an industry placement, applying acquired tourism knowledge to real-world situations and gaining valuable work experience
  • learn from well-connected faculty who teach with passion and innovation, enhancing your critical thinking, creative problem solving, and communication/presentation skills while using current case-study examples
  • network with industry professionals and alumni during guest lectures and events
  • participate in local field trips allowing for hands-on exploration of a variety of tourism and travel products and adventures
  • strengthen your resume with desirable industry-relevant certifications including TICO (Travel Industry Council of Ontario) and CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association) accreditation

Note: For students starting in September or January, there is a scheduled one semester break between second and third semester.

Work-Integrated Learning  

In the fourth semester, students participate in a comprehensive unpaid . Opportunities include positions with airlines, retail travel agencies, tour operators and destination management companies.

Field experience allows students to apply in-class knowledge and skills to real tourism industry scenarios which helps prepare them for their future careers. Our internship co-ordinator provides direction and assistance to secure a field experience.

Exclusive Programs

As part of our partnership with Baxter Travel Media, a competition was launched to find the Baxter Student Ambassador. The Baxter Student Ambassador Program started exclusively with Humber and was extended to colleges and universities across Canada.

Now in its fourth year, The Young Travel Professionals (YTP) have developed an exclusive partnership with Humber College culminating in an event in which young professionals in the travel industry network with current students. The program is a great avenue for students to develop connections with current young players in the tourism industry.

Unique Learning Opportunities

Humber Tourism - Travel Services Managment students have the opportunity to experience many unique, international learning opportunities through study abroad as well as their Trip Planning class. Seven Humber students recently travelled to Uganda to learn about sustainable tourism and conduct field research. In recent years, trip planning students have visited numerous exciting destinations including Portugal, Costa Rica Spain and Mexico. Each year a new, international destination is selected and visited by the class!

Go Abroad

Semester Abroad - Taiwan

Spend your 4th semester studying at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality & Tourism and experiencing Taiwan’s vibrant culture.

Summer Abroad

Students in this program may be eligible for a credit through Summer Abroad in Croatia, Denmark, Finland, India, Japan, New Zealand, Peru or Vietnam.

Placement Abroad

Students have the opportunity to complete program work placements in Canada or abroad. Students may also be eligible to receive a bursary from Humber.

Two-Week Global Adventure - Nunavut

Students are involved in volunteer projects based on their areas of interest and participate in unique local activities and excursions.

Study Abroad

Qualified students in this program may have a unique opportunity to complete their fourth semester living abroad in Taiwan. Students are enrolled with Humber and pay an additional program fee for this optional program. This experience is subject to eligibility standards and an application process.

Current opportunities include:

Semester 4 Taiwan: This 18 week program from the end of February through the end of June offers our students the opportunity to embrace the local culture, customs and language of Taiwan and our partner institution National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism.

Humber College’s affiliation with international educational institutions promotes student exchange programs providing both semester and summer abroad studying opportunities. Please note additional fees apply and participation is subject to availability and meeting eligibility requirements.

Our multi-faceted tourism graduates possess a broad base of business acumen as well as sought after soft skills ensuring a strong understanding of financial accounting, customer service, marketing strategies, sales techniques and the latest industry-specific technology required to succeed.

  • customer service and reservations
  • destination management
  • niche and corporate travel
  • product planning and development
  • sales and marketing
  • tour conducting
  • wholesale and (online) leisure retail operators

Certification Opportunities

Qualified students have the opportunity to earn the following certifications as part of the program:

  • Travel Industry Standards Certification (TICO)
  • Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) Certified Cruise Counsellor (CCC)
  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)

Membership Opportunities

Graduates may apply to become members of the following:

  • Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC)
  • Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA)
  • Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA)
