Program/Graduating Year: Sport Management, 2013
Role: Michael is the primary contact person for over 2,000 registered coaches looking for guidance with coaching education. Coaches throughout the province, country, and other countries, also often reach out to inquire how they can develop professionally using clinics/courses that Ontario Basketball offers. Also responsible for the coordination and administration of the National Coaching Certification Program within Ontario Basketball programming.
The best part of the job: “Having a full-time job in one of my greatest passions, basketball. Also, the flexibility of working in a not-for-profit organization has allowed to me to develop as a basketball coach myself. I’ve had the privilege of coaching elite athletes, some of which will one day play on great stages such as the Olympics and in professional leagues.”
How Humber helped: “I got involved with Ontario Basketball through a volunteer posting circulated to our class. From there I was able to create contacts within the organization and receive notification of upcoming opportunities, which I quickly took advantage of. I’ve also gained other employment opportunities by connecting with contacts that I made through the program such as instructors and guest lecturers.”
