What program did you take at Humber?

Fitness & Health Promotion

What is your current role?

I am the co-owner of Power4Teens.

What made you choose Humber why?

I attended the open house, loved the new renovations around the fitness center and had nothing but good vibes from the very beginning. The people, the energy and some of the professors that I met made it very easy for me to make my decision.

What do you wish you would have known your first day of taking this diploma/certificate?

Having eight courses a semester is a lot but you will survive!

Which classes did you enjoy taking the most?

Group Ex was my absolute favourite class! I also really enjoyed Biology and Physiology.

How have the skills you learned at Humber translated to your current role?

I use what I learned in Humber on a daily basis. I am currently working within the fitness industry by continuously educating children and youth about fitness, the importance of it and how fun it can be!

How did your program help you achieve your professional goals? What were some of the skills that you saw the most improvement with?

I learned so much from this program, I don’t even know where to start! This program taught me not to cut corners. Being educated by some of the best professors inspired me to teach others with the best knowledge and expertise. My communication about fitness concepts improved and I am now confident I can assist others effectively to reach their goals.

What was your favourite memory from your time here at Humber?

We had to run an event called the Fitness Olympics and I was on the marketing team. Our team became a family since we worked very well together. I loved every minute of the planning to the actual day of the event. Since that event, I have continued running events and get better and better because of this one. I also still have a great relationship with the same members of my marketing group!

What would you look for if you were in the position to hire new graduates from Humber College?

Someone who is constantly learning and evolving, has a passion for what they do, and, most importantly, has a positive attitude.

If you could give any advice to the students that are about to enter the workforce, what would it be?

It’s a large, but small industry. Never be afraid to talk to new people and ask for what you want. There will be tough times but keep going and strive for what you believe in. We change lives!
