Vasanth is an alumni with a contagious enthusiasm for Humber's Fitness & Health Promotion program.
“I came here from India specifically to go to Humber College. I was a physiotherapist and used to treat athletes suffering from injuries — I helped them get back into form. I was good at rehabilitating people but realized I needed to know more to be able to work in other areas. One day while surfing the web, I came across the the program and as soon as I read the course curriculum, I knew it was exactly what I needed to advance my career."
As the Strength and Conditioning Coordinator and Personal Training Manager at Executive Squash and Fitness for Women in Woodbridge, Vasanth is living his dream job of working with national-level athletes. Vasanth credits an internship placement at the Humber High Performance Athletic Centre with providing him the knowledge necessary to go out and work with high performance athletes ‘in the real world’.
“The strong course curriculum combined with my internship at the Humber Athletic Centre provided me with in-depth knowledge of the human body and exercise, but the course also taught me professionalism and prepared me for the real world.”
He recognized two of his professors who went above and beyond to mentor him. “I came here from another country, with a hot climate, so even adjusting to the weather was a challenge. They worked with me, often during their free time, to help me adjust. I am who I am today because of those two professors who helped me find my love for this industry.”
Today Vasanth gives back to the school and inspires students by guest speaking for the program and offering valuable internships.
