From Humber to the Harbour Castle—Victoria Simmons is Going Places


Victoria Simmons has been hired as the Assistant Banquet Manager at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle. As a recent graduate of Humber's Hotel and Tourism Operations Post-Graduate Certificate program, Victoria went on to do the one year Management in Training (MIT) offered by Starwood Hotels & Resorts and now she will help manage over 70,000 square feet of meeting and conference space at Westin Harbour Castle.


 “I love the food and beverage business, I love dealing with people—and I love eating, so it’s all here--this job is a great fit for me! Westin Harbour Castle is a conference hotel and the banquet department is such a huge and important part of the operation, this position provides me with the chance to learn as much as I can about banquets and food and beverage operations.” 

Victoria’s career path to the Westin Harbour Castle began the day Erin Haid, Talent Development Manager of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, came to Humber to talk to students about the MIT training program, a program where participants get hands-on experience as they rotate throughout various departments.

Victoria holds an Honours Degree in Psychology from Western University and has travelled extensively throughout Europe.  “Travelling provided me with a better perspective of the international food, beverage and hospitality industry. Humber connected the dots for me and led me to my chosen career path.”
