On Thursday, February 2nd, our Exercise Science and Lifestyle Management program welcomed students and industry partners to our first annual speed networking event. There were also three ESLM alumni in attendance representing their current employers. Industry partners in attendance represented a variety of different areas of the field including cardiac rehabilitation, clinical kinesiology, workplace health and wellness, fitness, athlete development and exercise education programs for children, seniors and hemodialysis patients.
Industry partners were assigned to eight different tables, and to kick off the event, provided a brief introduction and an overview of their education and employment path which led them to their current career. After this, groups of three to four students had approximately ten minutes at each table to network with employers and learn more about careers in different industries.
Both industry partners and students really enjoyed attending the event, and having the opportunity to sit down and speak with each other in a relaxed setting. Students commented that it sparked interest in areas they had not previously considered for their career, and that it really helped them to focus on what type of internship they are interested in. Industry partners loved the personal touch the speed networking provided, and enjoyed being a part of an event that provides students with real life scenarios and experience. Overall it was a huge success, and we look forward to continuing this event in future years!
