HRT FACULTY LEARN ADVANCED FOOD SAFETY TRAINING

This past spring, 19 HRT faculty members led by example and undertook a full day advanced food safety training class. The attendees also took a challenging exam after the session to achieve a management level certification.

Lucia Weiler, Registered Dietitian and Instructor at the School of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism, led the training session. The class learned a great deal of helpful tips and lessons that will aid them in their career, as well as their daily lives. For example, the class discussed the importance of promoting hand-washing for 15 seconds with warm water and soap before handling food. Keeping your hands clean is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

Participants said that the training was an excellent learning experience.

“It was a relevant and informative session delivered in a relatable, authentic manner with great anecdotes and examples that will stick with me,” said one faculty member.

Future advanced food safety training sessions are planned for August 21 and September 11 for Faculty and Staff, as this certification will be required for everyone teaching or handling food in HRT. Stay tuned for more information about how to register.
