HUMBER STUDENTS TAKE GOLD AND SILVER AT CCF CENTRAL REGION CULINARY CHALLENGE 2018

April 11, 2018

On April 7, 2018, the Canadian Culinary Federation (CCF) Central Region Culinary Challenge was hosted by Humber’s School of HRT at the North Campus.

Humber’s Alexander Delgado and Kelly Schmidt Balbinot David participated in the Junior competition at the CCF Central region Culinary Challenge. Alexander won first place and Kelly placed second overall in the competition while competing against four other students from Centennial and Georgian College. Among receiving a cash prize and trophy, Alexander also receives the opportunity to travel to Charlottetown PEI and represent Humber at the National Conference this upcoming summer!

Students competing in the Junior competition at Central Region were required to prepare one main dish for four people in a 60-minute time frame. The black box style competition gave competitors 15 minutes to write a description of their menu and the opportunity to organize their cooking stations before their 60-minute cooking time commenced. Each black box contained various proteins, vegetables, fresh herbs, starch, and cheeses that competitors were required to use in their main course dish.

A team of five judges scored competitors dishes based on cooking skills, food presentation, and overall taste. Students that place first in the Junior and Senior competitions in the Central Region Culinary Challenge receive the opportunity to compete at the national competition in Charlottetown PEI during the National Conference in June 2018, as well as a cash prize along with a trophy.

Congratulations to our students Alexander Delgado and Kelly Schmidt Balbinot David, for dominating at the CCF Central Region Culinary Challenge. We wish Alexander Delgado the best of luck as he heads to Charlottetown PEI to compete at the National Conference in June 2018.
