James Bodanis, a full-time Baking & Culinary professor in the School of HRT, is a prime example of how HRT staff go above and beyond what is expected of them. For over 11 years, James has been an integral faculty member at the School of HRT. He has been, and continues to be, a mentor and a source of guidance and support to his students and to his coworkers at Humber. Because of his outstanding efforts, James was presented with a Distinguished Faculty Award at the President’s Breakfast - Staff Recognition Awards on August 28th, 2017.
Throughout his Humber career, James’s mentorship and training has been crucial to his students’ success. Recently, he developed and coached the Gold-Medal-winning Humber Culinary Olympic Team. He also coached Solange Ordonez, a Culinary Management grad, who won both the provincial championship at the annual Canadian Culinary Federation Conference and the SAPUTO National Junior Culinary Challenge. Furthermore, as the Program Coordinator for the Cook (Cuisine) Apprenticeship, he helped to reinvigorate the Ontario Youth Apprentice Program at the School of HRT. And, last June, James was given the Chair’s Award of Excellence from the Ontario College of Trades.
Prior to his career at Humber, James was an accomplished Executive Chef, working in the Hotel and Hospitality industry for many years. Furthermore, James has won several Gold medals at competitions like the Niagara Chefs Competition and the Toronto Chefs Competition. In the past, he has also served as the Chairman of the Toronto Escoffier Society and President of the Canadian Culinary Federation’s Toronto Branch.
