The practice of mindfulness invites us to become aware of what is happening in the present moment without wishing it were different; to enjoy the pleasant without holding on when it changes, and to accept the unpleasant without fearing it will stay forever. In this practicum, students will apply the scientific and historical background of mindfulness practices to help themselves and their clients train their attention for present focus and to engage in mindful inquiry. They will discover strategies for stress reduction, self-compassion, empathy, healthy habits of mind and mood and explore cognitive strategies to increase resilience.
