Check in at the front desk of the Centre for Healthy Living in A100 at least 10 minutes prior to your assessment time. Wear comfortable clothes that you are able to move in. If there are any special clothing requirements you will be contacted by a student prior to your assessment for instructions.

Aerobic Fitness Testing - $20
Approx. Time - 30 minutes
This test utilizes a stationary bike, a treadmill or a step to estimate your aerobic fitness. You will perform moderate effort exercise and your heart rate will be measured and used to predict your fitness level. This test is useful to assess health related fitness, guide exercise and to track progress over time. You will receive a pre-screening prior to the start of test.
Submaximal Metabolic (VO2) Exercise Test - $75
Approx. Time - 60 minutes
This test utilizes a stationary bike or a treadmill and requires a vigorous level of exercise. During the test the assessor will measure your oxygen consumption through a mouthpiece and metabolic cart. Your ventilatory threshold will be measured and you will receive a prediction of your aerobic fitness level based on your heart rate during exercise. The test is beneficial for guiding intensity of exercise training, tracking progress of training and assessing health-related fitness. You will receive a pre-screening prior to the start of the test.
Maximal Metabolic (VO2 max) Test - $75
Approx. Time - 50 minutes
Like the Submaximal Metabolic Test, this test utilizes a stationary bike or a treadmill. A mouthpiece connected to a metabolic cart will be used to measure your oxygen consumption. This information, along with your heart rate, will provide a measurement of your maximal aerobic capacity (i.e. aerobic fitness). During this test you will be encouraged to push yourself to maximal exertion (be prepared to work very hard!). This test is beneficial for athletes or anyone seeking an accurate direct measurement of their aerobic fitness. The results can be used to track improvements in fitness over time and to determine training intensities. You will receive pre-screening prior to the start of the test.
Add on Blood Lactate Testing - Additional $50
If booking either of the Submaximal or Maximal Metabolic Test, consider adding on a blood lactate test. During the test, you will use a lancet to prick your finger and a hand-held lactate analyzer measures lactate concentration in the blood. This testing determines appropriate training levels and tracks improvement with training.
Resting Metabolic Rate (Resting VO2) - $80
Approx. Time - 45 minutes
Are you interested in knowing how many calories you utilize in a day while doing nothing? This test requires you to lay still and breath into a mouthpiece connected to a metabolic cart. That is all. Take this time to discover your resting metabolic rate and have a bit of peace and quiet in the day.
Wingate Test (30-Second Anaerobic Power Test) - $25
Approx. Time - 20 minutes
This is a 30-second maximal effort test performed on a Monark cycle ergometer (stationary bike). This test measures power output and is beneficial for athletes requiring explosive power in their sport (e.g. jumping, sprinting, etc.).
Pre-screening will occur prior to the test.
Comprehensive Fitness Assessment - No Metabolic Cart - 120 | With Metabolic Cart - $150
Approx. Time - 75 minutes
This is a package of tests used to assess: aerobic fitness (predicted based on exercise heart rate), strength, flexibility and body composition. The tests are standardized and used in the fitness industry to measure the many aspects of health-related fitness. This package includes either a bike or treadmill test, grip strength, sit and reach (flexibility), skin fold calipers (body fat %) OR BodPod, height, weight, and blood pressure. This package would be a great addition to any personal training or fitness programs you have joined or if you are looking to learn more about your current health related fitness level. Set a base line or check your progress.
Complete Wellness Package - $199
This 3-session package has it all! If you are looking to have multiple aspects of your wellness assessed, then this is the package for you. Initial online assessments assist in tailoring the package individually for you. Have your lifestyle choices reviewed, assess your cardiovascular fitness along with strength and flexibility. This package includes consultation, goal setting and follow up for feedback.
BodPod - Add-on - $15 | Stand-alone - $20
Approx. Time - 5 minutes
The BodPod Gold Sandard Body Composition Tracking System is an air displacement plethysmograph which uses whole-body densitometry to determine body composition (fat and fat-free mass) in adults and can accommodate a wide range of populations. A full test requires only about 5 minutes, and provides highly accurate, safe, comfortable, and fast test results.
