With the help of their instructor Nicole Chuchmach, Hospitality students Heidi Ahrens and Krista Emery competed at the Frankie Tomatto's Restaurant Innovation Competition organized by the University of Guelph, and won.
Heidi and Krista submitted a unique, innovative idea for an “Amateur Hospitality Certificate Program” for high school students.
The mission of their innovation was to encourage young adults to consider careers in the food and beverage industry. Competing against 7 other university teams, the Humber team was chosen as one of the three finalists and took home first place. The final competition took place at the Restaurants Canada Show on March 2, 2015. Heidi and Krista received $3,000 plus sessions with legal, financial and creative firms to help develop their innovation along with the expert coaching of Faculty Nicole Chuchmach.
